Trav’s Shepherd Pie


Layer 1
Rice and Beans, Yellow Rice, Coucous, or White Rice

Layer 2

Shredded Cheddar Cheese, Mozzarella, or Gruyere Cheese

Layer 3

Ground Beef or Ground Turkey 

Make sure that you season the beef, or turkey well. I use Old Bay Seasoning, Chicken Boullion seasoning, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and diced onions. Try using a dash of each seasoning until you achieve your desired taste. 

Layer 4

Shredded Cheddar Cheese, Mozzarella, or Gruyere Cheese. 

Feel free to use a little of each type of cheese.

Layer 5

Add mixed vegetables or sweet corn 

Layer 6

Creamy mashed potatoes and Applewood Smoked Bacon

Boil a few large potatoes, add to a mixer with a few tablespoons of butter, and mix until the potatoes are creamy. You could also use a hand mixer. Also, I like to add 2 tablespoons of sour cream, chopped chives and green onions. 

Finally, fry a few slices of bacon and chop the bacon into bite size pieces. Sprinkle the bacon on top of the layer of mashed potatoes, and add more cheese. 

Bake on 400 degrees for 10 to 15 mins, or until the cheese melts and browns a little.

      1. I must answer three ways. One, I’m primarily a sandwich guy. Love a good rye or nice squaw bread. Best sandwiches I’ve ever had was at a place called the Garden Deli, Half Moon Bay, CA. I willingly ordered new sandwiches on each visit and was never disappointed. Two, my Mom’s potato salad is the world’s best. All who eat it agree. Third, my wife’s vegetarian lasagna is awesome. Co-workers used to request for office potlucks. What’s your favorite?
